On Sunday, March 9, 2025, Japan celebrated another Miku Day with a highly anticipated announcement from McDonald’s Japan.
After teasing fans in February, the company officially revealed a special collaboration with the beloved Vocaloid icon, Hatsune Miku.
This partnership highlights McDonald’s Japan’s McShaker Fries (also called Shaka Shaka Potato in Japan), bringing a unique twist to the popular menu item.

A Musical Spin on a Classic Hit
As part of the collaboration, McDonald’s Japan created a playful parody of the well-known Hatsune Miku song “Mikumiku Ni Shiteageru [Shiteyanyo],” cleverly renaming it “Shakashaka ni Shiteageru.”
Along with a fully produced version of the parody track, an animated music video was released across McDonald’s Japan’s social media platforms, bringing a fresh, fun take on the original hit.
McDonald’s Transforms into ‘MikuDonald’s’
To further celebrate the collaboration, McDonald’s Japan announced that all in-store announcements will feature Hatsune Miku’s voice until Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The company also declared, “McDonald’s becomes MikuDonald’s” for the duration of the event, exciting both Vocaloid and fast-food fans alike.
While no additional collaboration details have been disclosed, many speculate that this could be the first of several stages in a broader partnership.
Nostalgia Meets Modern Hype
The song being parodied, originally composed by ika_mo (Kamo Tsuruta) in 2007, became a viral sensation among Hatsune Miku fans on the Niconico streaming platform.
A later parody by enka singer Sachiko Kobayashi in 2014 further cemented its popularity, drawing even more international attention to Miku and her musical influence.
McDonald’s Japan initially hinted at the collaboration on February 19 by posting an unmistakable silhouette of Miku on their social media channels.
The caption teased that “this year’s McShaker Fries will feature this person,” sparking widespread speculation that was later confirmed.
Adding to the excitement, the company also released a parody video inspired by the famous Niconico meme, “Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!” by daniwell.
Hatsune Miku’s Ongoing Legacy
Since her debut in August 2007, Hatsune Miku—developed by Crypton Future Media—has grown into a global phenomenon.
Beyond this latest fast-food collaboration, she has also starred in a recently released animated film, COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing.
The movie premiered in Japanese theaters on January 17, 2025, securing the #2 spot at the box office.
International audiences can look forward to its upcoming release, as GKIDS has confirmed screenings starting on April 11, 2025.
As McDonald’s Japan and Hatsune Miku fans continue to celebrate this creative collaboration, excitement builds for what might come next in the world of Vocaloid and fast-food crossovers.
